The CAPM, or Certified Associate in Project Management examination, measures your capabilities to perform in a project management role. This certification is an important credential to show employers that you have the fundamental skills needed to excel as a project manager.

A brief overview of the exam is presented below. For a more in-depth look, please check out The Ultimate Guide to CAPM Certification.

The updated CAPM exam is divided into 4 domains that take up different percentages of tested material:

  • Domain 1: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts, 36% of the exam
  • Domain 2: Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies, 17% of the exam
  • Domain 3: Agile Frameworks/Methodologies, 20% of the exam
  • Domain 4: Business Analysis Frameworks, 27% of the exam

Each domain is then divided into “tasks,” where candidates demonstrate their skills relative to every aspect of the domain.

Any person who has a secondary degree (such as a high school diploma or GED) and at least 23 contact hours of project management education can take this certification exam. After obtaining certification, you can pursue a career in the in-demand field of project management or even work towards the elite PMP certification!
